  • Background

    UBS Investment Bank offers investment banking, equities, fixed income and foreign exchange services across the globe. With capabilities this diverse, and a geographic footprint this extensive, UBS had over time developed a wide array of technology platforms and client interfaces that addressed discrete sets of audiences, functions and asset classes.
    Looking to their clients’ future needs, UBS decided to take an entirely new approach to investment banking client engagement by building a platform that brings together the very best of the bank’s content and capabilities in a single, integrated solution. Neo was born.

    The challenge

    The ambitious goal was to deliver a singularly consistent and intuitive experience to a diverse set of clients and staff across geographies, functions, products and services. The challenge was to make the user experience ‘personalisable’, and to live up to UBS’s commitment to being genuinely client-centric.

    What we did

    As a key part of the UBS Neo project team, we supported the development of the user experience strategy to encourage adoption across a wide set of platform features and services. Our work spanned the initial research, concept and prototyping through to the detailed analysis, design strategy, mobile strategy, solution wire-framing, visual design, taxonomy and ontology design and search engine design.

    The solution

    Neo delivers a seamless cross-asset experience, and a fully integrated cross-functional experience, all in one place. The platform borrows the best practices from social media and consumer products to offer sufficient flexibility for users to customise their experience to their preferred way of working, incorporating the teams and individuals with whom they connect day to day.
    Designed to be endlessly scalable, UBS Neo is ever-evolving with the ability to add new clients, capabilities and resources. This evolution of the platform has enabled it to stay ahead of the competition and win awards year after year.

    How it helped

    UBS Neo was launched to clients in January 2013, and has been widely used by internal UBS staff since then. Regular feedback from users has enabled us constantly to evaluate and improve the solution, using agile delivery to quickly roll-out incremental improvements.
    Adoption rates across the organisation are extremely impressive for a new software platform roll-out, and we continue to be engaged in its evolution.
